We have worked with Lewis Waite to procure farm fresh “pastured eggs” from Porter Ridge Farm. Eggs will be delivered EOW ONLY on the A week. An additional delivery will be made with the Thanksgiving Lewis Waite order to make the share 12 weeks total. The EOW delivery schedule coincides with Lewis Waite’s delivery of additional products (meat, cheese, flour, bread, grains and more).

Full egg share (2 dozen EOW, 12 weeks. The eggs are very fresh and will keep for a month or more!) $127
EOW egg share (1 dozen EOW, 12 weeks.) $63.50

Please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in a pastured egg share(email both katewimsatt@earthlink.netand donnamlem@hotmail.com). We will only be able to order in multiples of 15 dozen (15, 30, 45 max). Free range eggs will still be available to order a la carte when ordering additional items from Lewis Waite. The eggs we will receive as part of the egg share are PASTURED.

New Egg Farmer — Porter Ridge Farm

The Yellow Hook CSA is very happy to announce that we have partnered with Porter Ridge Farm for the 2012 season. Caroline and Josh have a flock in pasture in Hebron, NY. They allow the flock to free range in the woods outside their pasture almost every day, and feed a locally raised layer mash with no hormone, and no antibiotics. The chickens have access to grass and bugs and are given lots of treats like squash and pumpkins. Eggs from chickens that have access to grass and bugs lay eggs that are rich in Omega 3’s, have less bad cholesterol and more good cholesterol, contain CLA (conjugated linoleic acid a cancer preventer) and more vitamin D.

On Saturday, June 25 Yellow Hook CSA members, believe it our not, were working the fields. Yes it’s true, we were removing beetles from potato plant leaves.
