An additional delivery will be made with the Thanksgiving Lewis Waite order to make the share 12 weeks total. The EOW delivery schedule coincides with Lewis Waite’s delivery of additional products (meat, cheese, flour, bread, grains and more).

EOW egg share (1 dozen EOW, 12 weeks.) $63.50
Please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in a pastured egg share(email both katewimsatt@earthlink.netand donnamlem@hotmail.com). We will only be able to order in multiples of 15 dozen (15, 30, 45 max). Free range eggs will still be available to order a la carte when ordering additional items from Lewis Waite. New Egg Farmer — Porter Ridge Farm
The Yellow Hook CSA is very happy to announce that we have partnered with Porter Ridge Farm for the 2012 season. Caroline and Josh have a flock in pasture in Hebron, NY. They allow the flock to free range in the woods outside their pasture almost every day, and feed a locally raised layer mash with no hormone, and no antibiotics. The chickens have access to grass and bugs and are given lots of treats like squash and pumpkins. Eggs from chickens that have access to grass and bugs lay eggs that are rich in Omega 3’s, have less bad cholesterol and more good cholesterol, contain CLA (conjugated linoleic acid a cancer preventer) and more vitamin D.
Our New Fruit Farmer — Wilklow Orchards
The Yellow Hook CSA is very happy to announce that we have partnered with Wilklow Orchards for the 2012 season. The Wilklow family has been farming this Hudson Valley land for six generations — since 1855.
Fruits shares will include strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, gooseberries, currants, peaches, nectarines, plums, pears, concord grapes and apples. Three fruit share examples: 4 lbs. peaches; 3 half pints raspberries; and 8 lbs. apples. We can expect concord grapes in September in addition to pears and apples.
Full fruit shares for 22 weeks are $198 and Every-Other-Week shares for 11 weeks are $99. The average cost per week is $9.00.
The Quelite Greens Can Be Cooked Like Spinach
Just saute the quelites in olive oil with garlic and/or onions. This coveted green, sometimes called Lamb’s Quarters, is extremely high in Vit. A (280% RDA), Vit. K (1100%), Vit C (100%), Calcium and Manganese (50% each). See quelites recipe.
Working the Farm Fields
On Saturday, June 25 Yellow Hook CSA members, believe it our not, were working the fields. Yes it’s true, we
were removing beetles from potato plant leaves. The weather was agreeable, the farm fresh breakfast was a treat, the complimentary homemade ice tea and lemonade hit the spot, our farming work was real, the kids loved it, the adults loved it more, picking herbs was our take home gift, Cheryl is great, Cheryl’s brother is awesome, can’t wait to return.
